This is a beautiful tribute, Emily. I'm sure your great great grandmother would be so honored that you've kept her name and story alive

What a beautiful and fitting tribute, and it's so wonderful that you were able to research and share her story with us. Her memory will live on now that you have shared her story. Similar to your own experience I named my own son Matthew without knowing that my 2 x great grandfather shared the same name.........some things are just meant to be.

Thank you, Paul. This was my first stab at a story on Substack, so I appreciate the kind words. She is definitely the ancestor who has stood out the most to me and the one who made me curious about family history. My son definitely loves the fact that we have an ancestor with his name. Just wish we could find a photo of them, but I have a feeling none exist. At least we have some of their story which feels great to share!
